Data Science and Mathematical Modelling
Data science and mathematical modelling are the backbone of the modern entertainment industry, transforming artistic vision into immersive visual and interactive experiences. They are crucial for bridging the gap between artistic conceptualization and technical implementation, enabling the creation of realistic images, animations, and environments. In filmmaking, particularly CGI, mathematical algorithms create lifelike special effects—such as particle systems for explosions, smoke, and water—that would be impossible to achieve by hand. Geometry, linear algebra, and calculus are essential in 3D modeling and rendering, allowing animators to create smooth surfaces, manage lighting, and define character movement. In gaming, physics engines rely on mathematical modelling for real-time collision detection, kinematics, and movement, ensuring interactive, believable environments. Beyond visuals, data science optimizes operations, from using graph theory for narrative structuring to employing linear programming for balancing film budgets and reducing waste. It also includes audience analysis, using statistical models to predict box office success based on previous trends. Ultimately, data science and mathematical modelling enhance creativity and engagement, making entertainment more engaging and technically efficient.
Insight CEO, Dr Mark Griffin, has over 25 years of experience using data science and mathematical models within our research. We also have a gallery of some of the photos and videos that we have captured on Our Research and Visual Effects. Mark has providing training data science for the last 15 years under the umbrella of the Australian Consortium for Social and Political Research Incorporated (ACSPRI). Insight has a Division established for Data Science and Information Technology and one for Mathematical Modelling using Science and Engineering Data. We would like to work with you to best meet your need for data science and mathematical modelling. We also provide training in Data Science and Mathematical Modelling.
